NTHEA's primary goal is to make guaranteed student loans available to students and parents by providing capital and liquidity to Texas lenders. Lenders fund the student loans, and NTHEA purchases the loans, usually at the time the borrower enters repayment.

*Disbursement of the loan proceeds is very simple. Although there are other parties involved, HESC provides a centralized account into which the funds are transferred from the lender, requiring only a single-step. The remaining parties conclude the funding process, which through electronic funds transfer (or individual checks if a lender so chooses) funds are distributed to the schools for credit to the borrowers.
